Aw, Hell.

Surefire way to get a cold front to move in: take the covers off the garden.

It wasn't five hours after I took the covers off, folded them up, put them in the old freezer for storage, and took down the pvc pipe frames ...

... and the Weatherman's forecasting possible 2" hail tonight and record lows tomorrow night, maybe even in the  thirties.

And I'm all out of candles.  Crap.
*crosses fingers*

  1. Thanks for the heads up. I thought I did not have to check the weather anymore as far as protecting the plants. I just looked at the weather for tonight too.
    Crap!

  2. You're welcome, Karen. This is really weird, isn't it? But I'm not complaining ~ got 3/4 of an inch of rain Wednesday night. YAY! I'll take the cold so long as it comes with that!

This morning everything looked okay, no frost anywhere so we likely didn't get a freeze. I'm usually one that gets that even when others don't. I live in a kind of a river-valley situation between two creeks where cold sinks if it's a still cold (ie no wind), so the wind actually helped me out here. One more night and no more worries (until the next time ;).

Hope you fared as well, Karen. How are things this morning for you?

  3. Yikes! I did not expect a reply. lol

All storms considered here in SE Austin we did okay. None of my potted peppers are doing well, but my sunflowers are huge. I covered all ...

I just found out that we are not having a peach season this year due to the hail in March. What a bummer. Eating those great peaches are a great way to lose weight. I feel for the farmers ... )-:

    1. And obviously neither did I, Karen, judging from the length of time it took me to get back here. *snicker*

Yeah, it's incredibly sad about the peaches. I saw the news reports and just wanted to cry for them. And other growers of other things were hit incredibly hard as well. The plant buyer at work showed me some pictures of the hail damage Backbone Valley Nursery sent her. They're just west of Marble Falls and got hit with the brunt of it. It's so sad. If anyone's near Marble Falls, please do go out there and find something to buy (that's not hard for us gardeners ;). They could really use the support this year. They're good people who grow great plants, so I know it'd be worth the trip even if it's a little out of your way.

    1. Ha! I just came back here to make a post... ;)

I've been thinking of lots of new posts ~ weeds, how to grow tomatoes, soil health, knitting socks, spinning, and especially what my garden looks like now, all crispy (especially that last one, so I can show new gardeners I help at work so they don't feel so bad about their own gardens looking the same). I've even taken pictures for them, but just haven't been able to find the time. Or, more accurately, the gumption. It's just so HOT. Makes you not want to do anything but sit in front of the a/c. Just sit.
